Four crews tackle farm fire

Four crews dealt with a fire at a farm in the Staffordshire Moorlands at the weekend.

At approximately 1.20pm on Sunday (12 February) we received reports of a fire at a derelict shed on Buxton Road in Blackshaw Moor, Leek.

Firefighters from Leek, Sandyford, Hanley and Burslem were sent to the scene, along with a water carrier from Cheadle, to bring the blaze under control.

They used hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire which covered an area of 10m x 8m.

The fire is believed to have been started accidentally.

Crew Manager Julian Richards said: "On arrival firefighters were met with a well-developed fire which had caused significant damage to a derelict barn. Initially, they used two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to a second barn.

"A short time later additional crews and the water carrier arrived at the scene, and they worked together to tackle the blaze and safely extinguish the fire."
